Research & Planning Consultants, LP, (RPC) has an immediate opening for an experienced paralegal. This person will be part of the team preparing expert reports for our clients in personal injury and commercial litigation. RPC is based in Austin, Texas, and was founded in 1972. Duties:

  • Organize documents received from clients. Forward documents to the records management team and consultants.
  • Update RPC project management tools and affected staff and consulting associates when schedules change and if a case is settled or otherwise closes.
  • Review subpoenas duces tecum and notices of deposition and identify items RPC wants client attorneys to object to. Coordinate dates for trials and for depositions of RPC consultants with attorneys. Coordinate meetings of RPC staff and counsel with the attorney client to prepare the written response and to prepare for RPC’s counsel and consultants to be present at any hearing on motions.
  • Track court filings and scheduling orders for active RPC cases. Monitor incoming motions and pleadings to ensure timely action and communication.
  • Help to prepare back-up books.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required occasionally.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years’ experience as a paralegal, preferably working with a personal injury or commercial litigation attorney
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of typical court filings, responses to discovery motions, and other aspects of civil litigation in Texas and federal courts.
  • Ability to track cases and conduct legal research using on-line resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly WORD and OUTLOOK

Location and Hours: The RPC office is in Austin, Texas, and staff within reasonable commuting distance of the office are expected to have a hybrid schedule. Staff living outside the Austin area are expected to come to Austin for orientation and as needed but may live anywhere with excellent internet connectivity and reasonable access to a commercial airport. We have excellent IT support. The person must be available for calls and meetings between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Central Time. Some evening and weekend work is required to meet project deadlines.

Starting salary: $30.00- $35.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Position is eligible for annual discretionary bonus.
